Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox/Xeomin and how does it work?

Remove signs of aging by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for expression lines, such as the 11’s – vertical lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead lines/creases.

Botox/Xeomin is a purified protein that disrupts the nerve impulses that cause muscles to contract. When either of these proteins is injected into the facial muscles that are responsible for expression lines, those muscles become relaxed, causing wrinkles, and deep skin creases to smooth out over time.

How can Botox or Xeomin improve my appearance?

Botox and Xeomin can work to smooth away wrinkles that develop as we age. These include vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, “crow’s feet” near the eyes, forehead creases, and “bunny lines” that form on the sides of the nose. Botox/Xeomin can also reduce vertical bands on the neck. The results of these injections are typically evident in five to seven days.

While Botox/Xeomin gives the skin a smoother appearance, it may not completely eliminate deep folds and wrinkles. In those cases, it may be combined with a dermal filler, like Juvederm for the best overall results.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last for about four months, on average.

Are there any side effects?

Discomfort is rare. If you do experience pain, it will be minimal and short-lived and can be treated with anesthetic creams or ice/cool packs. On occasion, bruising may occur at an injection site. In rare cases, an injection will overtreat, or spread beyond the intended muscle, causing a drooping of the effected area. Getting Botox injections from an expert and experienced physician who understands facial anatomy, like Dr. Goldman, will reduce your chances of this side effect.

In all cases, you should avoid rubbing the injection sites to prevent the Botox from spreading to other facial muscles.

For Best Results we recommend following up with Dr. Goldman one to two weeks post-injection to ensure that the Botox has successfully treated the muscles and that you have the best possible results.

Dermal Fillers

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

Add volume to your skin and facial soft tissues to lessen shadows and smooth away crease and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers are gels that when injected into certain locations in the face can help reduce moderate to severe shadows, facial wrinkles and lines around the face. Most of the fillers we use contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your body that adds volume and elasticity to your skin and smoothes away wrinkles. Because the hyaluronic acid is made of synthetic material and contains no actual live ingredients, it has virtually no risk of allergic or other inflammatory reaction.

How can fillers improve my appearance?

Dermal fillers can be safely used almost anywhere on the face—they can correct nasolabial lines (between the nose and corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (downturned creases from the corners of the mouth). They can also fill out hollow areas under your eyes or replace lost cheek volume, erase vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows, augment your lips, smooth out the radiating lines around the mouth, and improve many other parts of your face. Injections take about 15 minutes and bring immediate results.

How long do the results last?

Usually six to twelve months, or up to 2 years depending on the product, location of the injection, and your body’s ability to metabolize the product.

Are there any side effects?

There is the chance of temporary redness, and tenderness at the injection sites. Bruising may occur for the first few days after treatment and up to two weeks, depending on the specific site and your own body’s response to the treatment. These side effects are usually well tolerated and typically diminish in a few days. You will be able to return immediately to your normal activities, but you should avoid any facial massage or pressure on the injected areas for at least one week.
